What would you like to tell us about their life?
Philip Abbott lived in Richardson Street West Ulverstone. He was a keen sailor up until leaving Ulverstone after year 12 to go New South Wales to study Agriculture, his other love. “Abbo" as he was affectionately known, (politically incorrect today!!) was a big guy with a big laugh, he was close friends with Paul Banks, Leon Weaver, Lachlan and Robert Pease plus many others. Philip died in a car crash in NSW in April 1988 at the age of 26. At this time he was engaged, the wedding was to be a couple of months later. I am sure his great chuckle will live on in our memories!
What was their greatest achievement?
Probably heading off to NSW to study away from family and friends, not an easy thing to do. Unfortunately the accident robbed Abbo of the chance to do a lot of other things he would no doubt have excelled at. His group of friends remember him as a very nice bloke.
What is your fondest memory of them at school?
A fair amount of good natured sledging came Philip's way during school but he was not an easy target and was always ready with a response. He didn't take it too seriously as his booming laugh was always heard very regularly. He did used to cop a bit of flak for being the owner of a very slow sailing boat.
